Join us on September 23rd from 4-6 PM PT for a session with Doctor of Organization Development David Harkins of Belmont College.
This workshop is designed to inspire and equip leaders with the tools to cultivate a compassionate and connected workplace. Rooted in recent and emerging research, we focus on how to cultivate, embed, and sustain collective empathy within organizations.
Using a blend of theoretical insights and practical, hands-on activities, you will learn how to integrate an empathy-centric approach into your leadership practices and daily operations, fostering a mission-centric culture, building caring communities, and promoting intentional leadership actions.
In the workshop, you will engage in interactive discussions, experiential learning activities, and action-planning sessions to translate theory into practice. You will explore real-world scenarios and share personal experiences to gain a deeper understanding of collective empathy's role in enhancing organizational culture and driving operational success. The workshop outcome goal is to provide you with the skills and strategies to create lasting change in your organization with an empathy-based approach.
Learning Objectives for this Session
- An enhanced understanding of the impact of empathy in organizations: You will learn the theoretical model of Cultural Collective Empathy and its importance in creating a mission-centric culture that fosters emotional connections and improves organizational performance.
- Practical skills to create Cultural Collective Empathy: Through experiential learning activities, you will learn practical techniques for active listening, perspective-taking, and empathy-driven leadership, enabling you to build a more compassionate and connected workplace.
- Actionable strategies for implementation: You will leave with concrete action plans that you can apply in your organization, including specific steps to promote and sustain collective empathy in their daily operations and leadership practices.
About Your Facilitator
David L. Harkins is a social scientist, educator, and practitioner. He is an assistant professor of social entrepreneurship at Belmont University and the founder and managing partner of David Harkins Company, LLC, a management consulting collective dedicated to addressing pressing and complex challenges that organizations, companies, and community leaders face.
As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Harkins bridges theory and practice. His research explores the human experience within systems and cultures, specifically the roles of collective empathy, entrepreneurial thinking processes, creativity in organizational problem-solving, and innovation leadership for sustainable change and social impact. His unique perspective and extensive experience have established him as a trusted resource in fostering organizational innovation.
His academic journey includes a Doctorate in Organization Development and Change (D.ODC) from Bowling Green State University, a Master of Entrepreneurship (ME) from Western Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurial and Small Business Management from American Public University. He is also a Certified Professional Coach.
