Janis Avery
This training will be conducted live via Zoom.
Many are called to lead toward racial equity and justice yet few know how to do it in a way that makes lasting differences. As consultants, leaders of organizations, teams and groups, the opportunity to transform is great. The roadmap, however, is not so clear.
In this workshop we will experience an approach for determining yours or your organization’s purpose for leading toward racial equity, designed to align your personal or business mission to racial equity. Then we will examine several tools that can help you determine next steps in impactful action.
Objectives:
Janis Avery is a mission-focused, outcome-oriented leader who served as CEO at Treehouse, a Seattle nonprofit, for 24 years. In 2014 her team set a goal to double the high school graduation rate for youth in foster care to reach parity with their peers. To achieve that audacious goal, the team set companion goals to achieve racial diversity among staff that matched their participants, and those participants would experience racially equitable outcomes.
That leadership journey led her to learn a great deal about herself and about how to achieve racial equity milestones within an organization. She demonstrated that focusing the business through the lens of racial equity led to better outcomes and deeper satisfaction and impact for all--clients, volunteers, and staff alike. Today, serving as a coach and consultant, Janis helps majority white leaders and management teams become leaders for racial equity.
